The first of March means quite a lot to me. Firstly and ‘calendrically’ it is the beginning of Autumn and here in South-East Queensland in Australia after the wild heat of Summer you begin to long for the cool breezes and the longer nights. Perhaps, it is all just an elaborate excuse to drape a blanket over you at night or to wear a scarf. I’m lucky where I live, in this sub-tropical region of the world, as it never gets too cold – and truthfully, I am one for sunshine and warmth! March also means I get to look forward to the Autumn Equinox and in my coven’s tradition it is a very important time to mark as it represents the descent of our Crescent-Crowned Goddess into the Underworld. She meets the Wolf God of Death and Darkness at the Gates to the Underworld and she pleads for passage into the beyond for she longs for her fallen Sun King (the Stag King). The Wolf God demands to be acknowledged as the rightful king of his reign and tide and thus the Great Goddess kneels and crowns the Wolf God as King of the Darkness! She passes through into the Underworld and the Earth above her also begins this spiral-journey to the with-in realms. The first of March is also the official release of my book – Spirited: Taking Paganism Beyond the Circle
It’s been a long time coming as the writing journey for this book was initiated quite a few years ago in 2004 after I returned to Toowoomba (the city I lived in at the time) from Brisbane a little depressed at the lack of valuable Pagan reading material aimed at those who actually live their spirituality and want to delve more deeply into the mysteries of their traditions. Five years have elapsed and I have grown and changed so much in that time. To write Spirited itself took altogether probably a year, and this is because I began writing Spirited while I was in my senior years of high school and was quite confused and disoriented with the direction of my life. Once I made the destined move to Brisbane in early ’06 everything began falling into place and the Great Mystery unravelled my story before my eyes. The Coven of the WildWood (to whom I am priest) was initiated Samhain (April 30th) 2006 and at Samhain this year it will be our third birthday and the initiation of our fourth cycle – the cycle of grounding. This was a good year and time for my first book to be published.
I’ve had such good reception already and my own Pagan community in Australia is really supporting me. I hope anyone and everyone who reads Spirited will feel this spirit of absolute passion that I have for my spirituality and for the Earth. This passion is what I also hold for all of you and is the reason I wrote the book in the first place~
