Merry Litha to All~

It’s that time of year again - High Summer, Midsummer, the Summer Solstice, Mean Samhraidh, the Sun’s Zenith…Litha. Tonight the Coven of the WildWood in association with PAN (the Pagan Awareness Network QLD) will be holding an open circle for the Pagan community in Sherwood Forest Park. There will be a ritual drama involving the battle between the Holly and Oak Kings for Sovereignty.

This is a turning-point of the Wheel, and past the longest day, the days gradually lose their length and we move closer to the dark spiral when the Year-King’s sacrifice for the harvest of abundance is made. The Sovereign, whose Land is golden and pregnant, smiles at her children as they revel in the heat of Summer! This is the time of watermelon, nectarines, mangoes and pineapple; we eat so much fruit that our lips and mouths begin to suffer.

In the Witch traditions the Summer Solstice is the perfect opportunity to gather under the blazing sun and celebrate the Old Ways. Fires are lit and with firestick and drum in hand the dance of Life ensues with all manner of frivolity. This is truly Fey Magick.

I wish a blessed, empowering and insightful Solstice to all (and of course to those in the northern hemisphere celebrating Yule). Listen as the Earth sighs…all acts of love and pleasure are sacred to her.

 Slainte!
